Middle East Arts InternationalExtravaganza - Canceled for 2009The MEAI board of directors has made the difficult decision to cancel our Extravaganza 2009 due to the state of the economy, a saturation of dance events at and around this time, and due to our involvement with several other upcoming events. As we had many who were interested in the Extravaganza workshops, we will most likely reschedule the workshops to take place at a future date. We hope to see you at Hasani's upcoming "Unhafla" for soon to be announced workshop. Additionally, MEAI is happily sponsoring Aziza at MedFest, and we are working towards exciting workshops and a gala show with Sahra Saeeda scheduled for this coming fall. ----- Please join Middle East Arts International for another great Extravaganza! This year’s featured workshop instructors and performers are Tina Sargent, Mellilah, and you!
Workshop Schedule:May 30, 2009 Workshop/Show Location:Youngstown Cultural Arts Center Please contact us at info@MiddleEastArts.org if you are interested in performing in the Extravaganza show. For full details and registration form click here. The WorkshopsStage Presence and Performance Polishers with Tina SargentKnown for her theatrical, graceful, and sometimes humorous performances, Tina Sargent will share the secrets of the stage with you. Learn how to build and project the stage presence you desire. Learn how to transform your dance into a polished, seamless, and bewitching piece, full of expression. Tina draws her inspiration from a wide range of sources: from the work of the late choreographer Ibrahim (Bobby) Farrah to Hollywood musicals. Warm elegance, exquisite grace, and playful precision are the hallmarks of Tina Sargent’s dancing. She is one of the top performers of Oriental Dance in the Pacific Northwest and has gained recognition nationally. While this style of dancing has traditionally been performed in more intimate settings, Tina has also been successful in taking the dance to a more expansive theatrical expression suitable for the concert stage. Body Dynamics with Mellilah"Dancers are the athletes of God" - Albert Einstein. Every dancer from beginner to professional needs the tools to help their body stay strong, flexible and safe. Knowledge of technique, rhythms, and moves is where your love of dance wants to take you; learning proper alignment, muscle anatomy as related to dance, and new ways to approach basic body movement and awareness is what will get you there. Learn techniques for relieving tension, preventing injury and pain, and facilitating effortlessness in your dance. Also, Mellilah will guide you through strength training exercises designed specifically to target our needs as belly dancers. Learn healthy warm-ups and stretches to enhance your body's overall performance. Finally, learn to engage your voice and settle your mind to become your best. Mellilah is an intuitive and generous instructor with a strong background in movement and fitness. She has completed Hadia's Middle Eastern Teacher Training Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, is a certified fitness instructor, and has a background in the Alexander Technique, a method of body movement and alignment. |
